Kelly is a Independent Private Neuro Occupational Therapist.
Kelly has experience in supporting clients from the acute stage of their injury and into slow stream and long-term community rehabilitation. As such, she has been able to experience directly the long-term impact of brain injury upon individuals and their families. Her work has also incorporated working with clients detained under the Mental Health Act, and with dual diagnosis of neurological disorder. This variety of experience has enabled Kelly to enhance her understanding of the psychological impact of disability for the client and their family, and to be flexible and creative in her approach to intervention.
Kelly is confident working with individuals affected by traumatic and organic brain injuries, including degenerative conditions. She is able to assess and treat clients, as well as plan and recommend future therapeutic intervention and equipment needs. She uses a range of person-centred approaches and techniques to overcome the cognitive, physical and behavioural difficulties associated with the client’s injury. She gives training to carers, families and therapy staff on individual rehabilitation programmes and therapeutic approaches. Kelly is confident at working with clients’ subtle yet impacting difficulties and is able to tailor her approach to maximise their rehabilitation potential.
Her work has been published in the College of Occupational Therapists’ monthly news journal ‘OT News’. Her work includes podium and poster presentations at the College of Occupational Therapists’ (COT) annual conference, Brighton 2009, and presentations to occupational therapy students at Coventry University. She has been tirelessly involved in supporting the profession to raise awareness, including participating in a media campaign for Coventry university to recruit and spread awareness of the Occupational therapy profession.
Kelly is a passionate writer and blogger, sharing her knowledge and skills on her private website which incorporate a range of articles and blogs, which include spiritual, emotional, cognitive, medical, social articles and also write’s poetry. She has published two books which are available on Amazon ‘The Dark Knight if the Soul,’ which is a psychological thriller and ‘Woman in Chains,’ which is a short play. She is currently directing her energies with a new charitable project, where she intends to raise funds to build a speclaisit school for disabled children in Nepal.
